Monthly Health Tip - October

Stay Ahead of Flu Season

October marks the start of flu season, and it’s the perfect time to take steps that keep you and your loved ones protected. While the flu can range from a mild nuisance to a serious illness, simple daily choices and preventive care can make all the difference.

Prioritize Rest and Recovery

Your immune system depends on quality sleep to recharge. Aim for 7–8 hours each night—rest is your body’s natural defense builder.

Stay Active

Exercise keeps your circulation strong and supports immune function. Even a brisk 20–30 minute walk, yoga session, or light workout can boost resilience against seasonal illness.

Practice Good Hygiene

Handwashing remains one of the most effective tools to stop the spread of germs. Scrub thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you’re coughing or sneezing, wear a mask to protect others, and don’t hesitate to stay home if you’re feeling unwell.

Get Vaccinated

The flu vaccine is safe, effective, and the single most important step you can take to lower your risk of serious illness. Getting your shot in October gives your body time to build protection before flu activity peaks. While vaccines don’t provide complete protection against getting ill, they significantly reduce the severity of symptoms if you do catch the flu—helping your body fight it off faster and lowering the risk of serious complications.

Fuel Your Body with Nutrients

Nutrition is another pillar of immune health. Vitamins C and D, along with zinc, can help support your defenses. Antioxidant-rich foods—like blueberries, citrus fruits, and leafy greens—fight inflammation and give your immune system an extra edge.

Stay Connected with Your Doctor

Finally, flu season is a reminder of the value of a trusted relationship with your physician. Visit your primary care provider to review your health plan, discuss preventive strategies, and make sure you’re prepared for the months ahead. If you don’t yet have that relationship—or if you’re looking for the doctor-patient connection you’ve always wanted—our practice is here to help. At Palm Beach Concierge Medicine, we combine elevated access with personalized care, so you always have a physician in your corner.
